Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette...One Fake One Real!

Top is real, bottom is fake

I got this as a treat from my mother a week or so ago,(she bought it from ebay) I didn't look at it properly initially, I just glanced down at the box and palette and got very excited, so when I did sit down and test out my new toy I was gutted, it was obviously a fake palette, the eyeshadows looked awful, the packaging was flimsy and the biggest clue it was fake was...It didn't smell at all like chocolate, it stinks of plastic!

Not wanting to upset my mum who had bought it for me I left it, until another family member bought me the 100% real one! and the difference is massive!

I have done swatches of the real one, which I will show you at the end of this post, but what I want to show you first is the fake one and the real one together so you know what to look out for.

First of all the difference between the boxes...

Top box is real, bottom is fake

The box at the bottom of these photos is the fake one, as you can see it is larger than the real one, I think if you have not got the original or have seen this on a Too Faced counter, you wouldn't be able to spot the fake just by looking at the box alone.

Top is real, bottom is fake

Now on to the palette itself, now there is definitely a difference here, in colour and size, the fake is wider, the fake is flimsy and the eyeshadows feel like they are shaking about a wee bit, with the real one it feels solid and doesn't sound like your shadows are going to fall out, the colour difference with a flash on the camera is the real one looks like proper chocolate, the fake looks green!

Look at the writing on the palettes...where is says Chocolate Bar, the real one is written in golden letters, the fake looks like its written in muddy chocolate.

Left is real, right is fake

Now my eyesight isn't brilliant, so at first glance, I couldn't spot the differences, can you???  You can see more shimmer in the real one, but if you can see more, please comment below!

Real one!

Fake one!

Now once you zoom in, you can definitely see the difference in the eyeshadows! One looks gorgeous, shimmery and catches the light beautifully, the other looks.....meh!

I wasn't going to swatch the fake one as I didn't like how it smelled, I was a bit worried it would break my skin out, if any of you would really like to see the swatches of the fake, I will if you comment below!

I am sorry this post is sooo long, I wanted to make sure I covered everything about the fake palette so someone else doesn't make the mistake my mum made (sorry mum if your reading this)

Now I am going to give this a quick "initial thoughts" review lol!!!

I love this palette!, the real one smells delicious! like chocolate (well duh Rachel), the eyeshadows are really creamy, highly pigmented and very blend able, I am looking forward to playing with this more, it also comes with a little slip showing your various smokey eye looks and what shades to use for the same effect....the only negative thing about this palette is that the shade names are on a plastic sheet that sits on top!! Must not lose it!!! Now for the most important part of this....the swatches!

I did miss out a few shades as they didn't photograph well, they looked invisible to the camera :( but I tried to swatch all the more pigmented colours.

You can buy this palette from Debenhams for £39

Thanks for reading xx

  3. Hey! This is a really helpful post. I just bought this palette online and it's on it's way to me now. I'm hoping it's 100% authentic like the seller says. I was wondering - did the fake come with the instruction guide thingies? xx

    1. Hey Babe :)

I think the fact it smells chocolatey is a positive sign, as the fake one I got just didnt smell nice at all and from other people I talked to this was the same issue. If I were you I would swatch it and compare them to ones beauty bloggers have posted, if the eyeshadows are very chalky it possibly could be fake and I would report it to ebay, I wouldnt worry about not recieving the guide as their could be a simple explanation for it not being in the box, maybe send a message to the seller asking about it, one more thing...have you got a Too Faced counter anywhere near you?? another option is to take it there and ask them.

      Hope this helps lovely
